NCC SHOULD BECOME MANDATORY FOR EVERY STUDENT – GOVERNOR

Imphal, July 7, 2017 (DIPR): Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Dr. Najma Heptulla visited the NCC Group Headquarter, DM College Campus, Thangmeiband, Imphal, today, and interacted with the cadets taking part in the 10-Days NCC Combined Annual Training Camp of 65th Manipur Girls Independent Company, NCC, Imphal.

Addressing the cadets, Hon’ble Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla said that the NCC is an institute where youths learn discipline and the value of life. All the school and college going children should join NCC to know each other, to know the country, to live with different culture and language, different way of life as the State has different tribes, different culture, different language and different living style. NCC should become mandatory for every student because NCC instill the feeling of nationhood which we need for national integration. Citing that in Israel, National Service is compulsory for everybody, if we are not making national service compulsory, we should have compulsory training for the youths, she added. The Governor also said that earlier NCC was a part of the school curriculum which was a very good thing even though for a short while. It should again be put in the school curriculum so that every student should be part of the NCC. She further added that the NCC cadets played a major role in the man-made and natural calamities and that they are competent to join the three forces to safeguard the State and the Country. Quoting the word said by her grandfather, ‘Whatever you do, do with dedication to your job, love your country and sacrifice for the great Nation’ she told the cadets to do their work with dedication. The organization of the camp was a good initiative. She will talk to the State and also the Central Government, in particular, the Defence Ministry, to improve the area, she added.

Hon’ble Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla handed over the Cadet Welfare Society Scholarship to the meritorious cadets of the three wings i.e., 14th Manipur Battalion NCC, Imphal, 65th Manipur Girls (I) COY NCC and No. 1 (Manipur) Air Squadron NCC, Imphal. Brigadier Vivek Sharma, VSM, Group Commander, NCC Group, Imphal, Instructors and cadets also attended in the programme. A total of 367 girl cadets are taking part in the training. (DIPR)
