Imphal, July 12, 2021(DIPR): The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) today donated small fishes for rearing at the Rowing Canal of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal. Officials of the department led by Director Shri T Phulen set free about 10,000 small fishes amounting to approximately Rs One laks, comprising of rohu, grass carp and silver carp for rearing and mainly for recreational purposes.
Regarding the motive, Shri T Phulen said that apart from being a recreational purpose, the small fishes will eat up the dirts and unwanted objects from the canal and will cleanse the canal. He added that the department is considering to set up a tourism and adventure-based recreational site USING pedal boats for the public at this canal when the COVID situation improves. He also appealed those staying inside the sports complex and those residents of the adjacent localities to support this initiative and not to disturb and catch the fishes.
