Imphal, July 04, 2017 (DIPR): The State Cabinet decided to summon the Second Session (Budget Session) of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly from July 20, 2017.
In its meeting held in the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat with Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh in the chair, the Cabinet also decided to engage a Consultant for the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for rejuvenation of Imphal, Nambul and Kongba rivers to check flash floods.
The Cabinet observed that due to massive deforestation in the catchment areas and large scale burning of the forest areas in the hill districts for shifting cultivation, flash floods occur frequently.
On account of deforestation in the catchment areas, the levels of riverbeds have also risen considerably due to siltation.
As such, there is an urgent need to rejuvenate these rivers by taking up re-sectioning and dredging works. It is also essential to strengthen the vulnerable and weak spots by constructing retaining walls.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to creation of an office of Superintending Engineering (Rural Circle No. III) in PHED to supervise the works of the newly set-up five Divisions after the creation of new districts.
Creation of the post of a Joint Director of State ICDS Mission under State Social Welfare Department was also approved.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to amendment of Section 8 Clause of the Manipur Fiscal, Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2005 to provide the statutory flexible limits on Fiscal Deficit. (DIPR)
