September 17, 2014: In the direction of cleanliness under the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign, Rangnamei Rang Peter, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong District officially launched the fortnight-long ‘Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2024’ mega campaign at Thawai village on 17.9.2024 at 10:30 am at the village Community Hall.
The launching program was attended by Shri Rang David Kung, SDO Phungyar Block, Shri Nepolean Rongmei, District Forest Officer, Kamjong District, Shri Chamdanlung Rongmei, Executive Engineer, PHED Kamjong District and Headman of the Thawai(T) village Wungnaoyung Ngalung amidst the presence of large number of students and villagers.
Speaking on the launching program DC Rangnamei Rang Peter encouraged the villagers to carry forward the habits of cleanliness and make it a way of life at all times. He also spoke on the importance of 'Swachh Bharat Mission' and urged the villagers to maintain cleanliness of all public places as we observe the SHS till it concludes on 2nd October 2024.
Shri Chamdanlung Rongmei, Executive Engineer PHED Kamjong District, while giving keynote on Swachhata Hi Seva campaign stated that the standard of living will be marked by our cleanliness index in terms of waste management through proper and scientific solid and liquid waste management.
SDO Phungyar, Shri Rang David Kung appreciated the villagers for the huge participation on the occasion and for their enthusiasm towards cleanliness.
The program was followed by mass tree plantation led by the Deputy Commissioner Kamjong District, SDO Phungyar, DFO Kamjong District, EE PHED Kamjong District, Headman of Thawai T village and all the participants followed by mass cleanliness.
At the end of the program a Swachhata Pledge was taken by all the participants numbering around 250 participants.
The launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign marks a significant milestone as Swachh Bharat Mission celebrates its tenth anniversary and the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign reaches its 7th year. The theme for SHS 2024, “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata”, seeks to reignite the spirit of collective action and citizen participation in cleanliness efforts across India, underpinned by three key pillars emphasizing a ‘whole of society’ approach: Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) — Shramdaan Activities: Focused on time-bound transformation of specific target units and overall cleanliness; Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari — Public Participation, Awareness & Advocacy: Engaging citizens in cleanliness efforts through various participatory activities and Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, Providing preventive health check-ups and social security coverage for sanitation workers.
The Campaign of SHS 2024 will culminate with a Shramdaan on 02.10.2024 on Swachh Bharat Diwas, to honour the legacy of the Mahatma Gandhi and make Swachhta a way of life.
