Imphal, September 5, 2024 (DIPR): The Department of Education, Government of Manipur today organised the State Level Celebration of Teacher’s Day. The main highlight of the programme was the honouring of State Teacher’s Awards of Education (S) and the launching of the “Chief Minister’s Award for Educational Excellence, 2024” for Education (U).
Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Th. Basanta Kumar Singh graced the function as the chief guest; while Commissioner (Education), Shri H. Gyan Prakash, IAS; Director (University and Higher Education), Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, IAS; and Director (Education-S), Shri L. Nandakumar Singh, IAS attended the event as the president and guests of honour respectively.
The function was held at the Auditorium of MFSDS, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Th. Basanta Kumar Singh appreciated the big role of a teacher in one’s life as he/she is the one who shapes the mind of an individual by being a constant guiding source. He applauded the utmost dedication and devotion rendered by the teachers’ community in guiding the lives of students.
The Hon’ble Minister further stated that according to the National Achievement Survey which (NAS), which is a comprehensive educational assessment survey conducted in India every three years, Manipur has shown a remarkably good scale in comparison to other developed states. The state of Manipur has performed really well in various categories like Class III standard, Class V standard, Class VIII standard and Class X standard by scoring above the national average in this survey. Among the North Eastern states, Manipur topped in the results of this survey, and the Minister credited this achievement to the hard-working teachers of the State.
He said that, with the initiative of School Fagathansi Mission, which was set up under the vision and leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri N. Biren Singh, 120 schools (two schools per assembly constituency) have been so far set up as model schools. The department is working to include more government schools to upgrade to the level of model schools in the subsequent phases.
Shri Th Basanta Kumar stated that schools should be developed in such a way that both the students and teachers can come to their schools with pride.
The Education Minister awarded 8 colleges under “Chief Minister’s Award for Educational Excellence, 2024” for Education (U) with with cash prizes. The colleges are Manipur College, Don Bosco College, Thoubal College, Kamakhya Pemton College, S.K. Women’s College, Waikhom Mani Girls College, Mount Everest College, and TS Paul Manipur Women’s College.
In the celebration today, State Teacher’s Awards, 2024 were conferred to six teachers of the state. The names of the awardees are Lisham Roma Devi, Primary Teacher of Athokpam Jr. High School, Ch. Damayenti Devi, Arts Graduate Teacher of Changangei Jr. High School, Akoijam Sundari Devi, Arts Graduate Teacher of Ningthoukhong Hr. Sec. School, Hriiziio Adahe, Science Graduate Teacher of Mao Maram Hr. Sec. School, P. Nipendro Singh, Principal of Model Hr. Sec. School, and Binodkumar Sharma of Hindi Graduate Teacher, Irang Pt-II Govt. High School. They were honoured with a citation of cash award of Rs. 50, 000 each.
The State Government today honoured the Principals/ Head Masters of 31 Government Schools which achieved 100% pass percentage in High School Leaving Certificate Examination-2024 of BOSEM. Moreover, Principals/ Head Masters of 12 Government Schools which achieved 100% pass percentage in Higher Secondary Examination-2024 of COHSEM.
68 subject toppers producing teachers from government schools of Department of Education (S) in the Higher Secondary Examination-2024 of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur were honoured with certificates and mementos.
