“CONSERVATION OF WILDLIFE THROUGH CO-EXISTENCE”

DATE: 5THOCTOBER 2024 (4th Day)

 

·         DFO (Wildlife) organized a nature walk for students in the State Orchidarium, Khonghampat in which around 150 students participated. Shri N.Ganesh IFS, DFO/Central, Shri Vikram Nadhe IFS, DCF/Park & Sanctuary, Shri L. Biramangol Singh MFS, Director/Zoo, Shri Thokchom Autumn Meitei MFS, DFO (Wildlife), and Shri N. Prabir Singh MFS, ACF/KLNP were present in the event. Wildlife videos were also shown to the students.   

·         Cycle Rally was flagged off by Shri KV Abhijit IFS, DFO/Chandel from Pallel and concluded at Komlathabi. About 60 youths, students, and wildlife lovers participated in the rally. He emphasized the need for people's participation, particularly youths and students, in the conservation of wildlife.

·         Shri Krishna Kumar IAS, DC, Jiribam and Km Elangbam NiramalaChanu MFS, DFO/Jiribam flagged off a Cycle and Bike Rally organized by Jiribam Forest Division. About 150 cyclists consisting of students, members of Friendly Environmental Warriors (FEW), Red Cross Society, and Forest Staff participated in the rally. 

·         More than 350 students, wildlife lovers, and youths participated in the foot rally organized by Noney Forest Division. Shri D John Sha MFS, DFO/Noney flagged off the rally from Gaidimjang and concluded at Guangpungbut.

·         Kamjong Forest Division organized a Nature Walk in which 50 students from different schools participated. The students were taken along different trails and identified various species including orchids and specimens collected for preservation in the Division office complex. 

·         DDK, Imphal organized a panel discussion on celebrating Wildlife Week 2024. Shri L. Birmangol Singh MFS, Director/Zoo, Smt Waikhom Romabai Devi MFS, DFO/Bishnupur and Shri M. Wungrin MFS, DFO/Urban participated in the panel discussion. 

·         Smt Esther Laltakim Serto IFS, DFO/Churachandpur and Smt SL Niangthinanhoi MFS, DFO/Pherzawl gave radio talks on “Significance of habitat conservation for protecting the endangered Hoolock gibbon in Manipur” and “Importance of wildlife conservation for survival of all species and their ecosystem” in Hmar and Thadou dialects.

·         Shri M. Rameshwor Singh, Hon’ble MLA, Kakching AC flagged off a mass rally organized by the Thoubal Forest Division from Kakching Bazar to Kakching Range Office. He appealed to the students, CSOs, wildlife volunteers, and youths, altogether 194, participating in the rally to conserve wildlife and protect their rights. Dr.Jeeceelee MFS, DFO/Thoubal, and his officers and staff were also present in the rally. The Division also arranged an exposure visit for 40 students and participated in the State Environment Conclave at IIIT, Mantripukhri.

·         Smt Mahamuda Begum MFS, DFO/Tengnoupal flagged off the mass rally for students, Teachers, and SHG members from her Division. The rally started at Cherith Foundation School and concluded at Molnoi Beat Office. Around 120 members participated in the mass rally.

·         Central Forest Division organized an awareness lecture on wildlife conservation and the need for co-existence for students and teachers of Wangoi Higher Secondary School. Shri L. Joykumar Singh IFS, CCF (Wildlife), and Shri Kiranjit Singh, RFO/Sadar West Range gave lectures and appealed to the teachers and students to participate in wildlife conservation. Also, the Division released 12 snakes rescued from various areas were released in suitable natural habitats in association with PFA.

·         Central Forest Division also made a short video message featuring renowned Manipuri Film Actress Sushmita appealing to the general masses to actively participate in Wildlife Week and wildlife conservation and shared it through social media.

·         Visitors to the Manipur Zoological Garden and students planted 30 saplings of fruit-bearing species in and around the Zoo. The Director, MZG, officers, and staff of the Zoological Garden also participated and interacted with the visitors.

Officers and staff of Senapati, Churachandpur, and Central Forest Division organized special drives in markets and other areas in their divisions to check the hunting and selling of wild animals. Special awareness was also given to the general public on the legal provisions relating to the hunting and selling of wild animals.
