Imphal, 21st June, 2024 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh attended the 10th edition of International Yoga Day under the theme of "Yoga for self and society" as the Chief Guest at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Imphal today.
The Chief Minister stated that yoga is a gift to the world by our country. United Nations gave approval to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 every year from 2015 after Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly, he reminded.
Shri N. Biren Singh emphasized that practicing yoga not only makes a healthy body and healthy mind but also helps in building a healthier and well disciplined society. Mentioning the significance of yoga in our lives, he said, many schools, colleges and institutions have included yoga in their curriculum.
Further stating the benefits of millets, he said that it is highly nutritious to the body which can be consumed in different forms. By promoting the consumption of millets, we not only enhance our personal health but also contribute to the sustainability of our planet. The Chief Minister also highlighted that the government will promote and make aware about the benefits of millets among the public.
Shri N. Biren Singh mentioned that India has made it clear in the meeting of United Nations Human Rights Council held recently that increased influx of people from Myanmar into India's Northeastern states and the challenge of transnational crimes such as drug and human trafficking continue to remain an area of grave concerned.
